Toyotomi Kyodai! Taiga drama features museum exhibition and political drama

The NHK Taiga drama ‘Toyotomi Kyodai!’ is generating significant interest through both its broadcast content and related cultural exhibitions. At the Edo-Tokyo Museum, a special exhibition dedicated to the series showcases historical artifacts that illustrate the relationship between Toyotomi Hideyoshi and his brother, Toyotomi Hidenaga. Actor Sosuke Ikematsu, who portrays Hideyoshi, visited the museum to highlight items such as a letter sent from Hideyoshi to Hidenaga during the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute, noting the blend of humor and steadfastness in their bond.

In recent episodes, the narrative focuses on Hidenaga’s challenges in governing Yamato Province (modern-day Nara). The story depicts his struggle against the entrenched power of Kofuku-ji temple, which maintained significant economic and military influence through the shōen system. As Hidenaga attempts to establish control and conduct land surveys, he faces resistance from religious authorities. The series also features the departure of the long-serving vassal Hashiba Masakatsu, a moment that has drawn emotional responses from viewers.
