TPAO expands energy exploration in Somalia and Turkey

Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO) is expanding its energy exploration footprint through new domestic licenses and an international production-sharing agreement.

In Somalia, TPAO has signed a definitive offshore exploration and production-sharing agreement with the Somali Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. The contract grants TPAO exclusive rights to explore, develop, and commercially extract resources across three maritime concession blocks covering approximately 15,000 square kilometers. The seismic research vessel Oruç Reis has already been deployed to conduct geological surveys in Somali territorial waters.

Domestically, the General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs (MAPEG) has extended TPAO’s onshore oil exploration licenses in Şırnak and Batman until 2028. Additionally, TPAO has applied to expand its existing exploration area in Tekirdağ by 18,471 hectares. Conversely, a request by Protech Enerji Petrol Madencilik to extend a license in Adıyaman and Şanlıurfa was rejected due to a failure to meet committed seismic and drilling programs.
