Turkish historical sites undergo cultural and artistic revitalization

Historical sites in Turkey are undergoing cultural revitalization through art and restoration. In Kayseri, the Hunat Medresesi, part of the Hunat Hatun Complex built in 1238, serves as a center for Seljuk heritage. Managed by the Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality, the site functions as a Culture and Art Center where 16 artists practice traditional Turkish crafts, including ebru, tile work, calligraphy, and jewelry design. The center hosts exhibitions, conferences, and workshops to preserve local history.

In Trabzon, the Ayasofya Mosque has been enhanced with new calligraphy works. Calligrapher Mahmut Şahin prepared new panels featuring verses from the Quran, specifically from Surahs Al-Imran and Al-Baqarah, to strengthen the building's Islamic identity. These works are designed to complement the historical architecture of the mosque. There are ongoing plans to establish a Calligraphy Museum at the site to further promote the art form.
