Trabzon City Hospital opening delays prompt parliamentary inquiry

Turkish lawmaker Suiçmez has submitted a parliamentary inquiry to the Ministry of Health regarding the repeated delays in the opening of the Trabzon City Hospital. Following reports that the opening has been postponed again to October 8, 2026, Suiçmez is demanding official explanations on 16 specific points, including the reasons for the delay, current costs, and new completion dates.

A significant portion of the inquiry focuses on ground safety at the Akyazı landfill site where the hospital and sports facilities are located. Suiçmez previously raised concerns regarding ground settlement and horizontal movement in the area, suggesting that the stability of the structure, built on approximately 5,000 bored piles, should be monitored using scientific methods such as InSAR satellite measurements and GNSS. The inquiry seeks clarification on whether technical data confirms the structural integrity of the facility.
