Trabzon conquest anniversary commemorated in Gölçayır

Commemorative events were held in the Gölçayır district to mark the 565th anniversary of the conquest of Trabzon. The program was organized through a collaboration between the Governor's Office, the Metropolitan Municipality, the City Council, and the TÜRKAV Foundation.

To honor the historical significance of the site, where Fatih Sultan Mehmet Han reportedly established his tent during the campaign, a symbolic tent was erected for the first time at this location. The festivities included traditional wrestling, archery competitions, a mehteran concert, and folk music performances.

Cultural activities featured thematic sections on the history and martyrs of Trabzon, the premiere of a documentary on the conquest, and a theatrical production titled ‘Ecdadımızdan Bize Mesaj Var’, which portrayed historical figures such as Fatih Sultan Mehmet, Yavuz Sultan Selim, and Kanuni Sultan Süleyman. Local officials emphasized the importance of civil society involvement and the goal of making these celebrations a sustainable annual tradition.
