Black Sea fishing season sees increased activity and fish abundance

The fishing season in the Black Sea is seeing significant activity following the lifting of various bans. Small-scale fishermen, permitted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to use traditional methods between August 15 and August 31, have already begun bringing bonito (palamut) to markets in Sinop, with prices ranging between 150 and 200 lira per unit.

In regions like Kastamonu's Cide district, the end of the jigging ban on August 15 has led to an abundance of horse mackerel (istavrit) and bonito, attracting many amateur fishermen to the shores. Local observers note that cooling sea temperatures and northerly winds (poyraz) have contributed to increased fish activity.

Meanwhile, commercial fishermen in Trabzon are preparing for the full opening of the season on September 1, which will end the ban on bottom trawling and purse seine fishing. These professionals are currently conducting extensive maintenance on vessels, including engine repairs, hull painting, and sonar and radar checks, in anticipation of a productive season.
