Trabzon infrastructure projects advance with new airport and city hospital
Major infrastructure developments are underway in Trabzon, Turkey. Construction has officially begun on the Trabzon New Airport project, which will be built on reclaimed land. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that 100 million tons of fill will be used to create the sea-based foundation, protected by a 6,000-meter breakwater. The new facility is designed to accommodate 10 million passengers annually and will feature a 3,000-meter runway, a parallel taxiway, and an apron area to alleviate pressure on the existing airport.
Simultaneously, the Trabzon City Hospital in the Akyazı region is nearing completion. The facility is expected to serve as a regional health hub, featuring a 900-bed capacity, including 236 intensive care beds and 664 single-occupancy rooms. The project, which has a total cost exceeding 11.7 billion TL, includes 300 outpatient clinics and 33 operating rooms. To ensure earthquake resilience, the construction utilized 5,200 fore piles and 762 seismic isolators.
