Trabzon launches UNESCO 2027 Gastronomy City candidacy
Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç announced that Trabzon has begun the application process to become a UNESCO 2027 Gastronomy City. The announcement was made at a press conference attended by the city's Science Committee, chaired by Prof. Dr. İrfan Yazıcıoğlu with Doç. Dr. Mehmet Akif Şen as secretary, UNESCO Global Cities Communication Advisor Genco Demirer and DOKA General Secretary Kemal Akpınar.
Genç highlighted the richness of Trabzon’s culinary heritage, its contribution to healthy eating, and the city’s aim to promote its gastronomy on a global stage. He said the application dossier includes historical and cultural data backed by scientific research. If the title is granted, Trabzon expects greater international visibility and a stronger tourism brand, positioning the city among the world’s most recognized gastronomic destinations.
