Trabzon marks 565th anniversary of its conquest

Commemorations are being held to mark the 565th anniversary of the conquest of Trabzon. Kenan Kuru, President of the Turan Ülküsü Development and Solidarity Association, noted that the Turkish Historical Society Scientific Board has officially recognized August 15, 1461, as the conquest date, correcting previous beliefs that the event occurred on October 26.

To mark the occasion, the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality is providing free transportation for citizens attending various scheduled events. The program includes religious services, traditional wrestling, archery competitions, and mehteran concerts. Cultural activities such as theater performances depicting historical figures like Fatih Sultan Mehmet and Evliya Çelebi, as well as the premiere of a documentary on the conquest, are also planned.
