Trabzon Mayor honors martyrs at Veterans Week exhibition

Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç attended the opening of a photo exhibition titled ‘Homeland, Heroism, Martyrs, and Our Veterans’ to mark Veterans Week. The event, organized by the Trabzon Branch of the Association of War Disabled Veterans, Widows, and Orphans of Martyrs with support from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, was held in front of the monument dedicated to the 71 soldiers from Trabzon who perished on the Ertuğrul Frigate in 1890.

During the ceremony, Mayor Genç emphasized the responsibility of preserving the memory of martyrs and veterans for future generations. He announced that a comprehensive study conducted during his tenure as Mayor of Ortahisar resulted in a book documenting the lives and memories of 2,679 martyrs from Trabzon, including Eren Bülbül, based on records found in state archives. The Mayor stated that efforts to keep the names and histories of these individuals alive would continue through further research of historical documents.
