Trabzon Mayor pledges protection for minibus drivers amid transit upgrades

Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç has pledged to protect the interests of local minibus (dolmuş) drivers as the city prepares for major transportation upgrades. During a visit to the Boztepe Dolmuş Station, Genç discussed the potential impacts of upcoming rail systems and proposed funicular projects on existing transit routes.

Genç noted that while the city currently relies on a combination of municipal buses and minibuses, the introduction of a rail system will require a new transportation model. He specifically highlighted that the western stops and the southern Boztepe line, which currently operates 57 minibuses, could be directly affected. The Mayor emphasized that the municipality aims to minimize grievances among drivers by evaluating new regulations through consultation.

Additionally, the Mayor addressed requests for additional stops in the Moloz area, stating that such decisions would be made in coordination with station management and drivers. He reiterated that the municipality's primary goal is providing efficient public service rather than generating commercial profit from transit.
