Trabzon officials plan new incineration technology for Araklı waste facility
Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality is seeking to resolve long-standing environmental and odor issues at the Taşönü Integrated Solid Waste Assessment and Disposal Facility in Araklı. To address the problems affecting local residents, officials are exploring the implementation of full incineration technology to replace current storage methods.
During a recent meeting involving representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, İLBANK, and the World Bank, discussions focused on securing financing and utilizing new technologies to make the waste disposal process more effective. The facility, managed by the TRABRİKAB union, serves both Trabzon and Rize provinces, making its efficient operation critical for regional waste management.
Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç stated that the goal is to eliminate the bad odor and improve the quality of life for citizens through modern incineration and energy production methods, supported by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.
