Trabzon wall collapse forces evacuation, no injuries reported
A retaining wall behind a five‑storey building in Ortahisar’s Karşıyaka neighbourhood collapsed at around 07:00, sending soil and stone into the back rooms of two ground‑floor apartments. Security cameras captured the incident.
There were no injuries; residents swiftly evacuated the affected flats. Police, AFAD and municipal teams arrived, secured the area and ordered the first and second floors of the two blocks to be temporarily vacated while a risk assessment was carried out.
Site manager Özgür Kaya said the danger had been reported beforehand, and residents recounted narrowly saving a child within ten seconds of the debris entering the home. Damage was recorded in five rooms across the two apartments, and affected families indicated they would pursue legal action for the material and emotional losses. Investigations into the cause of the wall failure are ongoing.
