Trabzon University hosts panel on youth risks and addiction

Trabzon University hosted a panel titled ‘Ateş Düştüğü Yeri Yakmasın’ (Let the Fire Not Burn Where It Falls) to raise awareness among students regarding diseases, addiction, social sensitivity, and abuse. The event was organized through a collaboration between the Ministry of Interior’s General Directorate of Relations with Civil Society and the Black Sea Provinces Women’s Association.

Experts at the panel discussed various social risks facing young people. Social services specialist Fayık Yurtkulu provided insights into combating addiction, while project coordinators discussed the ‘Erdemlerimizle Varız’ initiative. Nilgün Turan, President of the Black Sea Provinces Women’s Association, noted that the project has already provided training to 15,000 students and aims to continue through a series of programs to protect youth from harmful habits.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Şen, Dean of the Trabzon University Faculty of Medicine, emphasized the importance of social transformation, noting that the project—originally shaped in Kayseri and Ankara—is now being expanded to the Black Sea region to focus on the rehabilitation and social integration of youth.
