Trabzonspor intensifies pursuit of Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez

Turkish club Trabzonspor has opened formal talks to acquire 27‑year‑old Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez from Saudi Arabian side Al‑Hilal. The move follows the high‑profile signing of Mohamed Salah earlier this summer and is aimed at bolstering the team’s attack for domestic league, cup and European competition.

Club president Ertuğrul Doğan confirmed on a television program that the club is targeting a top‑class striker and that negotiations with Al‑Hilal and the player are progressing. Reports indicate the deal could involve a loan arrangement, with Al‑Hilal covering a large portion of Nunez’s €8 million‑a‑year salary and Trabzonspor seeking sponsor support for the remainder.

Nunez, who joined Al‑Hilal in 2022 after a €85 million transfer from Benfica to Liverpool, is under contract with the Saudi club until 2028. He has made 24 appearances this season, scoring nine goals and providing five assists, and is valued at roughly €20 million on the market.
