Trabzonspor Secures 5 Billion TL Funding for Facility Expropriation
The Turkish football club Trabzonspor reached an agreement with the government to receive more than 5 billion TL for the expropriation of the Mehmet Ali Yılmaz sports facilities, whose total value was estimated at about 6 billion TL. The payment is scheduled for the first week of August and will be used primarily to settle past tax debts, interest charges and other lingering obligations, giving the club’s finances a significant relief. Part of the proceeds is also expected to support local clubs 1461 Trabzon FK and Sebatspor.
At the same time, the city of Trabzon is entering an intensive construction phase under Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç. Projects slated for completion before year‑end include a new city hospital, the New Trabzon Airport, a city‑wide rail system, the Uzunkum Living Area, an autism and disability centre, and the Karagöz Square. Recent weeks have seen a series of groundbreaking ceremonies across the province, from the Şehir Hastanesi to the Akçaabat bus terminal, with further road, infrastructure and environmental works underway. Authorities warned that the surge in activity could cause temporary traffic disruptions and affect local merchants, but expect the developments to shape the region’s future for years to come.
