Trace Adkins' Mother Peggy Adkins Serves as Mayor of Sarepta, Louisiana

Peggy Adkins, a retired high school teacher, has been the mayor of Sarepta, Louisiana since 2013. She assumed the role after the town’s mayor, E. L. Edwards, died unexpectedly, initially serving as mayor pro tem before being appointed full‑time when no other candidates ran. Running unopposed, she has now held the position for more than a decade, becoming the town’s second female mayor.

In interviews, her son, country‑music singer Trace Adkins, described her hands‑on approach to local issues, from writing letters to residents about yard maintenance to handling minor criminal matters. Adkins recounted an incident where his mother ordered a young woman involved in a drug‑related case to attend Sunday school for six months, noting that such a punitive measure might be illegal.

Peggy Adkins continues to work to keep the small community together despite population decline following the closure of the local mill.
