Tracep Congo Aviation cargo plane crashes in eastern DRC, one crew member dead
A Tracep Congo Aviation LET L‑410 cargo aircraft departed Beni in North Kivu on Friday at 12:36 local time, carrying about two tonnes of goods bound for Kachungu in Shabunda territory. Minutes after take‑off the commander reported a failure on one of the two engines and attempted to divert to Walikale airport, after which radio contact was lost.
The aircraft was located on Sunday evening in a forested area near Kamaninge, close to the village of Buruko in Walikale territory. Search teams recovered the body of the commander and found the co‑pilot alive. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation by Congolese aviation authorities.
