Tractor hayride crash in Wellsburg, NY, injures 14 people

A tractor pulling a hayride overturned during a youth outing in Wellsburg, New York, on Sunday afternoon, injuring at least 14 people. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Comfort Hill Road and Berwick Turnpike.

The hayride was carrying 19 passengers, most of whom were children from a German Baptist religious group. According to Chemung County Sheriff Bill Schrom, the John Deere tractor appeared to lose control while approaching an intersection too quickly. The driver swerved to the right, causing the tractor to overturn and the wagon to disconnect, which ejected the passengers.

Of the 14 injured, three remain in critical condition. Emergency responders airlifted one individual to a hospital, while five others were taken to Robert Packer Hospital by ambulance and eight were transported by private vehicles. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
