Tractor Supply implements value pricing and cost reductions

Tractor Supply has reported a return to positive comparable store sales growth. To combat consumer budget pressures, the company is utilizing government tariff refunds to lower prices on approximately 50 essential items. CEO Hal Lawton noted that this targeted value strategy is driving store traffic, increasing units per transaction, and expanding the overall customer basket.

To protect operating margins and keep them above 9%, the company is targeting more than $75 million in annual reductions in selling, general, and administrative expenses through 2027 and 2028. These efforts include streamlining supply chain operations and store tasks to offset rising labor and freight costs. Additionally, management plans to moderate capital expenditures to below 4% of net sales to improve cash flow for shareholder returns and disciplined expansion.
