Trade Republic obtains life insurance license in Liechtenstein
Digital bank Trade Republic has reportedly received authorization to operate its own life insurance company in Liechtenstein. This move prepares the company for competition regarding the state-subsidized pension depot planned for 2027.
Trade Republic aims to differentiate itself from traditional providers by focusing on low costs. The company’s planned pension offering includes free account management and the monthly reimbursement of the Total Expense Ratio (TER) for selected ETFs from partners such as BlackRock, Vanguard, and DWS.
While the new insurance license provides a regulatory foundation for insurance business, the specific products to be offered have not yet been disclosed. Analysts note that such low-cost entry models are often used as marketing tools to attract new customers to a platform, with the hope they will eventually utilize more expensive services.
