Trader Joe’s leads baby boomer grocery popularity

A new analysis by YouGov reveals a generational divide in grocery store popularity. While millennials and Generation X favor Aldi as their top grocer, baby boomers identified Trader Joe’s as their most popular choice.

Overall, Aldi ranked as the most popular grocer across all adults with a 65% popularity score. 7-Eleven followed as the second most popular overall at 63%, with Trader Joe’s ranking third at 60%. Among millennials, Aldi held a 70% popularity score, while Generation X gave Aldi a 77% score.

Trader Joe’s popularity among older shoppers is attributed to its small, easy-to-navigate stores and a lack of self-checkout or heavy computer use, offering a more traditional shopping experience. The study also noted brand preferences, with Dawn liquid soap ranking as the top brand overall.
