Traders in Haiti and Guinea face economic disruptions

In Port-au-Prince, Haiti, informal sector traders represented by the Collectif des commerçants du secteur informel are calling for the rehabilitation of the city center, specifically the Champ de Mars area. While security forces have cleared several neighborhoods in recent months, traders report that the atmosphere remains volatile and streets stay deserted, preventing a full economic recovery. The group emphasizes that improved security is a prerequisite for the return of customers and the resumption of school and business activities.

In Kankan, Guinea, heavy vehicle drivers have suspended operations following a municipal decision to ban unauthorized parking and the unloading of goods in the city center. Drivers report that hundreds of trucks are currently immobilized at the city entrance, leading to concerns over the spoilage of perishable goods. Union representatives argue that the city's requirement to unload at night is unsafe and that the alternative of using tricycles to move goods to stores significantly increases costs for merchants and consumers.
