Santa Ana police investigate $1M trading card heist
Thieves stole nearly $1 million worth of collectible trading cards from a FedEx truck parked outside the Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) headquarters in Santa Ana, California, on October 13. The heist occurred while the driver had left the vehicle unattended for approximately 60 to 90 minutes.
Authorities reported that the suspects broke the truck's lock and made off with two full pallets of cards, while a third pallet was also disrupted. The stolen items include a variety of high-value sports cards and Pokémon cards. While initial police estimates placed the value of the stolen goods at $963,000, some collectors and experts suggest the total loss could exceed $1 million once all items are accounted for.
Collectors, the parent company of PSA, has deactivated the certificates for the stolen items and notified marketplace partners to prevent the sale of rare or serialized cards. The company is also working with law enforcement and coordinating compensation for affected customers based on fair market value.
