Trading methodologies focus on top-down analysis and backtesting accuracy

Technical analysis and backtesting methodologies are central to effective trading. Top-down analysis involves evaluating market structure across multiple timeframes—such as Daily, H4, and H1—to establish direction and context before seeking specific entries on lower timeframes. This method aims to filter out low-quality trades by ensuring they align with the broader market trend.

In backtesting, traders must avoid look-ahead bias, which occurs when a strategy inadvertently uses information that would not have been available in a live market. This error often stems from using future candle data, such as a daily close or high, to make decisions at a time when those values were not yet finalized. Such biases can result in artificially high win rates that fail to translate to real-world performance.
