Traditional All Saints Day celebrations held in A Illa and Ibiza
In A Illa, the tradition of ‘Día de Pedir’ continues as a religious custom linked to the cult of the deceased. Unlike the Anglo-Saxon Halloween, children participate by reciting specific phrases to receive ‘esmoliña’ or food. Residents and businesses provide a variety of items, ranging from sweets and pastries to traditional foods like fruit, canned goods, or octopus, maintaining a custom that historically focused on sharing available household provisions.
In Ibiza, local authorities organized activities to promote the traditional ‘Tots Sants’ customs following a period of official mourning. Held at the Sa Peixateria plaza, the event featured workshops for making traditional sweets such as ‘panellets’ and ‘bunyols’. The celebration also included the ‘trencada’ of dried fruits, a long-standing local custom where families gather to share almonds and walnuts.
