Traditional Chinese dietary remedies for autumn lung health

During the autumn and winter seasons, traditional dietary practices often focus on moisturizing the lungs and soothing coughs. Pears are a common remedy due to their high water content, dietary fiber, and antioxidant properties. While pears can help alleviate dryness-induced throat discomfort, they are not a universal cure for all types of coughs, particularly those caused by infections or cold-type ailments.

Almonds are another staple in traditional Chinese wellness soups. There are three primary types: sweet almonds (Nan Xing), which are mild and used for moisturizing the lungs and intestines; bitter almonds (Bei Xing), which are used medicinally for antitussive and asthma relief but contain slight toxicity if consumed raw; and nut almonds (Badan Xing), commonly used as snacks.

Health experts recommend specific recipes for seasonal wellness, such as old cucumber and pear soup for clearing heat, or egg white almond tea for nourishing blood and the brain. However, individuals with weak digestive systems, those suffering from diarrhea, or those with lingering colds should consume these foods with caution.
