Regional Balkan culinary traditions and heritage highlighted

Regional culinary traditions and traditional recipes are being highlighted through various cultural and gastronomic lenses. In Čakovec, the Festival of Međimurje Cuisine was held to preserve the culinary heritage and identity of the Međimurje region, featuring traditional dishes like zlevanka and Međimurje gibanica. The event was organized by chef Slađana Zadravec.

Other traditional Balkan dishes continue to hold cultural significance. Cicvara, a dish made from cornmeal and kajmak or cheese, is noted for its historical presence on tables and its perceived digestive benefits. Similarly, čimbur, a simple meal of eggs and onions with roots in Turkish cuisine, remains a staple breakfast across the Balkans and is recognized by gastronomic guides like TasteAtlas.
