Traditional culinary recipes from Moldova and Romania
Traditional culinary practices are being highlighted through regional recipes and festivals in Moldova and Romania. In Sipoteni, Călărași district, a festival celebrates chicken soup made with homemade noodles and sour bors, featuring recipes passed down through generations. Participants in the 2026 edition of the competition utilized ingredients such as thyme, bay leaves, and various herbs, with some emphasizing slow-cooked meat and homemade sour bors.
In Romania, the Saint Martyr Tryphon Monastery in Galați preserves a traditional mountain recipe for green beans with milk. This dish, originating from the Buzău region, is prepared without oil or sautéing; instead, vegetables are boiled in water and finished with naturally soured milk. The monastery also houses the Lower Danube Agriculture Museum, which was inaugurated in December 2025.
