Traditional dance contests and workshops held in Asturias and Ciudad Real, Spain

The third edition of the Concurso de Palos y Panderetes de la Danza del Portal took place in the Llagar Cortina de la Ferrería in Amandi, Villaviciosa (Asturias). Organized by Sidra Cortina with the Asociación Amigos de La Danza del Portal "La Portalina", the event awarded €1,000 and a commemorative ribbon in the categories “Mejor Pandereta 2026” and “Mejor Palu”. Participants had to meet specific size and decorative criteria for the traditional wooden sticks (palos) and drums (panderetes), which must be adorned with six colored ribbons representing regional and national flags.

In Ciudad Real, the ninth edition of the Fiesta de la Seguidilla workshop was held in the Jardines del Prado as part of the month‑long Pandorga festivities. The Asociación de Coros y Danzas María José Melero, together with the municipal Tourism and Festivities departments and other local dance groups, taught young people the traditional Manchegan seguidilla steps. The event emphasized cultural identity and included traditional refreshments such as homemade limoná.
