Traditional Durga Puja boat processions return to Sutunga River

After a ten-year hiatus due to security concerns, the traditional practice of immersing Durga idols via boat on the Sutunga River in Mathabhanga is being reinstated. Following requests from residents and efforts by North Bengal Development Minister Nisith Pramanik, local authorities held a high-level meeting to finalize safety protocols.

Seven puja committees will participate in the immersion process, with a limit of 30 people per boat. To ensure public safety and order, the administration has prohibited the use of DJs on boats, intoxication, and private firework displays during the procession. Emergency services, including the NDRF, SDRF, fire services, and medical teams, will be deployed to manage the event.
