Traditional leaders in Togo and Cameroon hold significant cultural ceremonies

In Togo, the official decree recognizing Majesty Guin Fio Akouété Têko Apétovi V as the customary chief of the Anfoin canton was presented to the local population during a ceremony on September 19. The event, which included processions and traditional performances, follows the formal handover of the decree by the Maritime region governor in May. Local officials and the new chief emphasized the importance of traditional authority and called for community unity.

In Cameroon, 19 traditional chiefs from the Akwa Canton have issued a communiqué to clarify details regarding the upcoming coronation of King Akwa Mbanya, scheduled for October 10, 2026, in Douala. The chiefs addressed recent debates concerning the Mbanya site, confirming it as the historical location for the purification and enthronement of Sawa dignitaries. They specified that the ritual will take place on a dedicated parcel of land to ensure the sanctity of the ceremony and urged the public to maintain peace and avoid misinformation regarding Sawa traditions.
