Traditional rulers pass away in Ondo and Osun states
Two traditional rulers in Nigeria have died recently. In Ondo State, Oba Moses Ekundayo Bakare, the Onidogun of Idogun, passed away after spending 24 hours in a coma following a collapse. His death has been marked by community tension; some residents reportedly blocked roads with logs to prevent his remains from entering Idogun, forcing the transport vehicle to divert to a mortuary in Owo.
In Osun State, Oba Enoch Ademola Akinyemi, the Owa-Ooye of Imesi-Ile, died at the age of 85. Having reigned for 21 years, he was described by the Owa-Ooye-in-Council as a symbol of unity and development for the community. Traditional rites and burial arrangements for the late monarch are expected to be announced by his royal family and the council in due course.
