Trae Young addresses defensive role and future with Wizards

Washington Wizards guard Trae Young has addressed his defensive role following his trade from the Atlanta Hawks. Young acknowledged that he will likely be the team’s ‘weak link’ defensively but promised to provide high effort, noting that the Wizards' roster now features significant rim protection and help behind him.

The Wizards' roster includes several defensive assets such as Anthony Davis, Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, and Kyshawn George. Young, who signed a four-year, $212.8 million extension with Washington, remains primarily focused on his offensive role, where he has averaged 25.1 points and 9.8 assists over his career.

Regarding his departure from Atlanta, Young expressed that he wanted to leave the Hawks on good terms to avoid bad blood with the city or fans. While he is currently committed to Washington, he noted that ‘you never know’ regarding a potential future reunion with the Hawks.
