Traffic accidents in Croatia and Serbia lead to prison sentence and fatal investigation

In Croatia, the Split Municipal Court has sentenced Dražen M. to three years in prison following a 2017 traffic accident in Čista Provo. The defendant, driving a VW Passat, attempted to overtake a column of four vehicles across a solid line on a slight right-hand curve. This resulted in a head-on collision with a Mercedes. The accident caused life-altering injuries to a married couple, Josip and Ivana B., who were left with permanent disabilities. In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a two-year driving ban following the completion of his sentence.

In Serbia, investigations continue regarding a fatal accident in Užice on September 19, which claimed the life of 21-year-old motorcyclist Marko Tošić. The driver of the BMW involved, 38-year-old entrepreneur Nikola Lukić, was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Toxicological reports from blood and urine samples confirmed his intoxication, resolving earlier discrepancies caused by different testing methods. Authorities have seized the vehicle and ordered forensic expert examinations to reconstruct the mechanism of the collision.
