Münchhausen: Fatal collision on B 252 kills Sprinter driver

A fatal multi-vehicle collision occurred on the B 252 near Münchhausen on Monday afternoon. A 41-year-old driver from Glauchau, operating a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, crossed into the oncoming lane for reasons yet to be determined and collided head-on with a tractor and agricultural trailer driven by a 31-year-old man.

The force of the impact caused the Sprinter to be thrown back onto the original lane, where it was subsequently struck by a 23-year-old driver from Rostock. The Sprinter driver was trapped in his vehicle and died at the scene. The tractor driver and the 23-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals.

Following the accident, the B 252 was closed for approximately eleven hours for recovery and cleaning operations. Total damages are estimated at roughly 200,000 euros. Prosecutors have appointed an expert to investigate the exact cause of the crash.

In a separate incident related to the aftermath of the crash, a 22-year-old man driving a BMW drove through a police blockade intended to keep the area clear for cleaning. The man, who was driving under the influence of alcohol and did not possess a valid driver's license, resisted arrest. Two police officers sustained minor injuries during the encounter.
