Traffic chaos hits Mexico highways near Palmillas

Major traffic disruptions have paralyzed key highway corridors in central Mexico, specifically affecting the Mexico-Querétaro and Toluca-Ixtlahuaca routes near Palmillas.

On the Mexico-Querétaro highway, a 25-kilometer traffic jam occurred between kilometer 175 and the Palmillas toll booth. The congestion, which lasted throughout Friday morning, was attributed to a combination of an accident and ongoing construction work in the corridor. GPS data indicated travel times of up to two hours for the affected stretch, leaving heavy trucks and private vehicles stranded.

Simultaneously, repair and rehabilitation works on the Toluca-Ixtlahuaca highway near Palmillas have caused significant delays. The construction has forced the use of central lanes for two-way traffic, reducing vehicle speeds and creating long queues. This road is a vital connection for the State of Mexico, linking Toluca with municipalities such as Zinacantepec, Almoloya de Juárez, Ixtlahuaca, and Atlacomulco, and handles a high volume of heavy freight and passenger transport.
