Traffic congestion hits Guatemala City following accident in El Progreso

A vehicle collision involving a heavy transport truck and a car occurred near midnight at kilometer 30 of the Atlantic Route (CA-9 North) in San Antonio La Paz, El Progreso. While the accident resulted in material damage and no reported injuries, it caused significant traffic disruptions.

The congestion extended for over 20 kilometers, reaching as far as Guatemala City. Authorities from the General Directorate of Road Protection and Safety (Provial) and the Municipal Transit Police (PMT) have been deployed to manage the situation. As of the latest reports, the right lane remains obstructed, causing long delays for drivers attempting to exit the capital.
