Traffic congestion identified as top frustration for UK business drivers

A survey by Venson Automotive Solutions indicates that traffic congestion has become the primary frustration for UK business drivers, surpassing travel costs. The study found that 59% of professional drivers are traveling more than they did last year, with 28% identifying congestion as their biggest challenge, compared to 16% who cited cost.

Despite the rise in traffic, 53% of respondents prefer driving to meetings over using trains or virtual communication. This preference maintains the car as the default mode for business travel. The report notes that traffic levels in Great Britain have exceeded pre-pandemic levels, with average delays on local 'A' roads reaching 43.4 seconds per vehicle per mile for the year ending March 2026.

Venson advises fleet operators to treat congestion as a manageable operational issue through improved journey planning and route optimisation technology to mitigate lost productivity and increased fuel consumption.
