Ankara child’s fatal crash investigation rejects political interference claims
On 22 June 2026, 11‑year‑old Alper Yusuf Polat was killed in a traffic collision in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara while riding an electric scooter. The minibus driven by Fatih Oral, a member of the AK Party municipal council, struck the child. Police reports found the driver failed to reduce speed at the intersection, while the victim also violated crossing rules.
Oral was detained immediately, charged with negligent homicide, and later sentenced to detention in Sincan Prison.
