Traffic disruptions reported in Torre del Greco and Bologna due to signal issues
Significant traffic congestion has been reported in two Italian locations following issues with traffic signaling systems.
In Torre del Greco, the activation of new traffic lights—the first fixed systems in approximately twenty years—caused widespread chaos on its first day. Major bottlenecks occurred at the intersection of via Veneto and via Circumvallazione due to improper timing between red and green lights and poor pedestrian synchronization. Similar disruptions were noted at the intersection of via Cavallo and via Circumvallazione, affecting transit through to the Sant’Antonio roundabout. However, the signal at the intersection of via Tironi and via Enrico De Nicola reportedly functioned effectively.
In Bologna, a traffic light malfunction paralyzed via Marconi, causing delays of over an hour for public transport. Approximately forty buses were caught in queues between piazza dei Martiri and piazza Malpighi. The synchronization failure forced some commuters to abandon their vehicles and walk to their destinations to avoid excessive delays.
