Romanian Police launch aerial surveillance and technical checks

Romanian authorities have intensified road safety enforcement through aerial surveillance and technical inspections. Under the ‘HeliPol’ operational concept, the Romanian Police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs utilized helicopters to monitor national roads and highways. During 145 aerial missions totaling 751 flight hours, officers identified 577 traffic violations, including 558 instances of speeding.

In Bucharest, a joint operation between the Road Police and the Romanian Automotive Register (RAR) targeted vehicle technical conditions. The crackdown focused on noise and emission reduction systems, lighting legality, and the use of non-certified window films. The operation resulted in 30 fines totaling approximately 19,700 lei, with 7 penalties issued for non-compliant exhaust modifications and 23 for other technical deficiencies. Authorities also seized 11 registration certificates and seven sets of license plates for remediation.
