Germany and Luxembourg conduct widespread speed enforcement operations
Authorities across various German regions and parts of Luxembourg are conducting extensive speed enforcement operations. As part of the European-wide ‘Operation Speed’ week, the police in the Trier region reported 9,259 speeding violations between August 3 and August 9, resulting in 14 driving bans.
In the Recklinghausen district, participation in ‘Operation Speed’ saw approximately 1,100 violators out of 4,500 controlled drivers. Notable incidents include a driver in Haltern am See recorded at 109 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Meanwhile, the city of Lünen highlighted a 20-year-old driver who reached 75 km/h in a 30 km/h zone, earning the ‘Willi of the Week’ distinction.
Local municipalities are also implementing targeted measures. Helmstedt has installed a new stationary speed camera near Braunschweig to reduce accidents at a known hotspot. In Dorsten, authorities are conducting mobile speed checks alongside inspections for dog owners regarding waste disposal. In Saarland, both mobile and stationary radar controls remain active across several key routes.
