Traffic fatalities and license suspensions rise in Albania and Kosovo

A surge in speeding violations has led to over 1,500 driver's license suspensions in Albania within a single week. Experts note that high speeds, often combined with poor signage, continue to cause fatal accidents. Recent changes to the Road Code include permanent license revocation for repeat alcohol offenders and potential suspensions for mobile phone use, with fines for dangerous maneuvers reaching 60,000 lekë.

In Kosovo, a severe single-vehicle accident in the village of Smrekonicë on the Prishtina-Mitrovica road resulted in the deaths of two young men, Qëndrim Xhemajli and Rinor Zejnullahu. The tragedy has deeply affected their families, with Xhemajli’s wife sharing a public tribute to her late husband. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
