Traffic laws in UK and Turkey penalize misuse of vehicle headlights

Authorities in the United Kingdom and Turkey are enforcing strict penalties regarding the misuse of vehicle headlights and high beams for signaling other drivers.

In the United Kingdom, using high beams to warn other motorists about police presence or speed cameras is illegal under the Police Act 1996. Such actions are considered an obstruction of police duties and can result in fines of up to £1,000. Experts note that headlights should only be used to indicate a driver's presence, and misuse can compromise road safety or be exploited by fraudulent schemes.

In Turkey, improper light usage is regulated under the Highway Traffic Law, where unnecessary or improper use of lights can lead to administrative fines and penalty points on a driver's license. Furthermore, aggressive or repetitive flashing intended to harass other drivers can be prosecuted under the Turkish Penal Code as a crime of “disturbing the peace and tranquility of individuals,” which may carry prison sentences ranging from three months to one year.
