Santiago launches road safety education program

The Santiago City Council, the Rompiendo Paradigmas Foundation, and the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT) have launched the “Paradigmas del Tránsito: por una nueva cultura vial” program. The initiative aims to promote respect for traffic regulations, strengthen prevention, and reduce road accidents in Santiago, Dominican Republic.

The program is built on two main pillars: formal road safety education in 26 educational centers and active street-level education. The educational component includes biweekly training sessions and the preparation of student multipliers, supported by the Digesett training school. The street-level component will involve 150 road safety agents, composed of young scholarship recipients from the Rompiendo Paradigmas Foundation, who will provide guidance at major intersections in coordination with local authorities.

This initiative follows a period of high road mortality in the Dominican Republic. According to INTRANT executive director Milton Morrison, 2,992 people died in traffic accidents during 2025, with motorcyclists accounting for more than 65% of those fatalities.
