Alicante and Argentine specialists advance road infrastructure projects
In Alicante, Spain, the City Council has moved forward with infrastructure improvements in the Aguamarga industrial area. The project includes the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Elche Avenue and Algueña Street, awarded to Pavasal Empresa Constructora for 221,175 euros. This work, which has a three-month execution period, is part of a broader modernization of the strategic axis connecting Alicante and Elche, near the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport. Additionally, A-Ingenia Research and Consulting has been contracted to draft the redevelopment project for the rest of the avenue.
In Argentina, a team of specialists and academics has developed a low-cost prototype designed to measure traffic on rural roads. Presented at the XIX Argentine Congress of Road and Traffic, the device uses LiDAR technology (infrared light pulses) to automatically detect vehicles. The system collects real-time data, including vehicle count, direction of travel, estimated speed, and approximate vehicle size. This tool aims to provide systematic records for unpaved or consolidated rural paths to assist in planning future roadworks.
