Montenegro reports 46% drop in traffic fatalities amid stricter enforcement

In Montenegro, the Police Administration has reported significant results following the implementation of stricter traffic regulations starting August 7. Between August 7 and October 5, authorities sanctioned 42,405 traffic violations and arrested 1,348 individuals for serious offenses. Notably, 172 drivers under the age of 21 were penalized, and 32 parents or guardians were sanctioned for allowing children under 16 to operate electric scooters.

Data indicates a decrease in road accidents by 9.8 percent, a 17.4 percent drop in serious injuries, and a 46.2 percent reduction in fatalities compared to the same period last year. To maintain these trends, police are deploying advanced automated radar systems that record speeding without requiring a vehicle to stop. Authorities have stated they will not disclose the specific locations of these new radars, arguing that the uncertainty encourages drivers to respect speed limits on all roads.

Ongoing enforcement efforts include intensified radar controls throughout October and the remainder of the year to promote road safety and traffic culture.
