Traffic restrictions implemented in Cúcuta and Medellín
Traffic restriction measures, known as 'pico y placa', are being implemented in Cúcuta and Medellín to manage urban vehicle flow and reduce congestion.
In Cúcuta, for Friday, September 11, 2026, private vehicles and motorcycles with plates ending in 9 and 0 are prohibited. Local metropolitan area vehicles face restrictions during peak hours (7:00–8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m., and 5:30–7:30 p.m.) within the city center. National plates and taxis face continuous restrictions from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. within the inner ring road.
In Medellín, the restriction applies throughout the Valle de Aburrá. For private vehicles, plates ending in 0 and 2 are prohibited between 5:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Motorcycles with a first digit of 0 or 2 are also restricted. Taxis with plates ending in 8 are prohibited from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Certain routes, such as the Río road system and Avenida Las Palmas, remain exempt.
