Traffic safety alert issued as schools reopen in the Netherlands

As schools in the Overbetuwe, Renkum, and Rheden regions resume following the summer break, Veilig Verkeer Nederland (VVN) is urging increased vigilance regarding road safety.

With the return of daily school commutes, VVN advises motorists to reduce their speed and remain highly attentive near school zones. The organization notes that children, particularly younger ones, may struggle to accurately judge traffic situations or may cross streets unexpectedly.

Parents are encouraged to help children practice their routes to school to build confidence. VVN also recommends that parents leave cars at home when possible, opting to walk or cycle instead, and warns drivers against parking in areas that obstruct the visibility of children crossing the road.
